The Internet You vs. The Real You

Written by Ricky Breslin

I think THE biggest reason people fail at making money online is that they are simply not themselves. I’ve been in the game for a minute, and the biggest problem I see is that people in general are a bunch of copycats.

Here’s the problem…

First of all, you’re not me, and I’m not you. You’re not the person you’re trying to copy. What you’re trying to portray is fake… an illusion, a figment of your imagination.

How on earth are you going to copy a personality that isn’t yours? No wonder you’re failing.

The key to this game is finding YOUR voice, YOUR calling, YOUR place in whatever niche you want to be in.

Another big problem with copying other people is that it will never last. Why? Because fakeness never lasts. It’ll always come to light if you’re faking it.

Here’s what I suggest…

Stop reading other people’s blogs, RSS Feeds, articles, whitepapers, interviews, etc for 2 weeks, and find YOUR voice.

During these two weeks, figure out who YOU are – exactly what you want the public to know about you and how you want them to think of you.

Now, come up with 5 things you’re REALLY good at.

For instance, my 5 things are golf, persuasion, conversion, copywriting, and product creation.

Now, take those 5 things, and on one piece of paper, draw out a business plan detailing how you will make money from those skills.

To show you some examples of people who found their voice, I want to introduce you to 3 people.

First up is Ryan Healy.

Ryan sticks to what he’s good at. He doesn’t try to be the master of everything. He focuses on his strength, which is mainly copywriting. But don’t get it twisted – Ryan also knows how to get gangster and flex his beer muscles. He definitely isn’t afraid of a fight. But guess what? You can lay your balls on the concrete in front of a crowd, IF you have the integrity in your own life and business to back it up.

Another person to check out is Michel Fortin, who just opened up about his smoking addiction and how he beat it! Michel gives great copywriting and business advice but also knows how to connect with his audience beautifully and he knows EXACTLY whom he’s talking to.

Not only that, but he’s written one of the best books I’ve ever read. I recommend Michel’s book, 10 Commandments of Power Positioning, to everyone I mentor as mandatory reading. If you haven’t read it, do it now.

And lastly, I want you to give props to Dan Gallapoo, also known as Doberman Dan.

Out of all the blogs I’ve read in the last year, Dan’s has impressed me the most. Especially one of his latest posts, entitled “I Think I Need A Shrink.” Dan is one of the most transparent bloggers I’ve ever seen. Not to mention the dude has nuts the size of Wyoming, with the way he opens up and is just real. I love that.

I mention these three marketers as good examples of what to do. But guess what? They found THEIR voices, and what they do doesn’t matter to you at the end of the day. And I guarantee they don’t sit around wondering what to write, because it’s inside them… it’s ingrained… it’s in them – so it comes out naturally, and it’s real. You can’t steal that; you can’t replicate it.

Finding the REAL you is always the hardest thing to do. But once you do, you can roll with the punches and withstand the criticism that WILL come as you become successful and start making some dough online.

But guess what? When you find your voice, you’ll be pumping out products like crazy, your confidence will grow through the roof, and nobody will be able to stop you.
