Understanding the 80/10/8/2 People Principle

Written by Ricky Breslin in Blogroll

After working with so many people in different industries, and monitoring human behavior of those whose goal was “Internet success,” I came up with the 80/10/8/2 People Principle.

If you pulled 100 people out of a crowd and monitored their lives for 30 days, here’s what you would discover…

80% don’t really care about being successful. They‘re limiting their lives for security. I’ve found that the three big reasons the 80% crowd stay employed and don’t follow their dreams are a steady paycheck, health insurance, and fear.

10% talk a lot about starting their own business, but never have the balls to do anything about it. They love to hear their own voices and make sure other people hear them because they feel they have something important to say. At the end of the day, the 10%-ers want success, but never shut up long enough to listen to instruction or take the action that will get them where they want to be.

8% actually have more than a snowball’s chance in hell of doing something meaningful in their lives. They don’t just talk about starting their own business or being successful – they take decisive action to turn talk into reality. With enough focused action (I’ll talk about this in more depth later), the 8%-ers have an excellent chance of making it.

2% are winners. The question isn’t IF they’ll be successful, but WHEN. Even if they don’t know how yet, they know somehow it will happen. You can’t stop a 2%-er; they are dialed in, focused, and relentless in their pursuit of financial freedom, and they can’t stand being average. The 2%-er will NEVER make excuses. They understand that excuses only serve to delay productive action and avoid personal responsibility. This biggest obstacle a 2%-er encounters in life is balance. It’s a constant fight, but is obtainable.

Becoming a 2%-er is a sacrifice. Do you think it’s chance that there are so many fat people walking around? I don’t. The reason there are so many fat people is because it’s EASY to be fat.

I’ll be honest with you – you can take the easy way out and still become a top 10%-er and live a decent life if you take action. But it is not be possible to take the easy way out and become a self-made 2%-er. Inheritances, financial gifts, etc. don’t count. I’m talking about people starting from scratch and MAKING a business work.

It’s important to realize that in everyday life, you’re only exposed to the end result of people’s successes –cars, boats, houses, vacations, etc. You only see the Z part of the equation. Nobody talks about the A-to-Y process which is hustle, determination, calling 50 people to get the 1 answer you need, working 19 hours a day to finish a project, etc. Although there are no guarantees, if you have the personal drive and actually do the A-to-Y part, your chances of success will be greatly increased. That’s called risk, and fear of risk is the major reason so many people never start this journey in the first place.

So, at the end of the day, you need to understand the 80/10/8/2 People Principle. And remember: don’t listen to what people say – watch what they do. Then you’ll be able to train your mind to focus on what’s really important.

    Wow, awesome post!
I feel like I'm definitely an 8%-er. Wish I was more of a 2%-er, though.
